WALL ART ~ OTHER ART 2
”The Ties That Bind” 52”H x 29”W
This piece could not have been created without the generous contributions of numerous friends and acquaintances, and I am very grateful for their willingness to share their thoughts, and humbled by their trust in me: thank you.
I asked a number of people if they would be willing to share what they considered to be the ties that bind them, or what they considered to be ties that bind. I told them that at least some of what they chose to share would possibly be included in an art piece I was beginning. The ideas and feelings shared were amazing; some sent just a sentence or two, others a page or more; all invaluable.
I printed all the words out on pages of prepared red silk, and then cut the pages into strips, keeping each person’s thoughts together. As I was making all the cords for this piece, I incorporated the strips of printed silk into them, allowing the words to hang down and float freely off the cord.
Once all the cords were completed, they were joined to one another so they would hang together as you see on the left.
Materials: silk, threads, yarn miscellaneous fabrics, ink jet printed silk.
