Cost: $65 per class + materials fee.
Materials Fee: ****A word about the materials fee: I basically provide all materials required/needed for a class (additional materials beyond what is normally provided for the class are usually available for an additional cost) with the exception of some tools (i.e. sewing machines and attachments as needed and that sort of thing). Why, you ask? Well, because I want to make it as easy on students as possible: you don’t need to be wandering all over everywhere looking for some esoteric class supply, nor do you need to turn up with the wrong supply, nor do you need to make yourself crazy looking for just the right ‘thing’.... nor do you need to show up with 3 suitcases full of ‘stuff’, just so you would have everything you think you might ever possibly need! The idea is to have fun, learn something, get away from stress, and be silly in a room with a bunch of other silly people. No worries. No stress. No hassle. OK.
Class Size: Class size is limited; attendance requires pre-registration with 50% deposit (non-refundable if attendance canceled less than 1 week in advance).
Duration: 10:30 – 3:00 (4 1/2 hrs. with breaks), various dates; others by special arrangement. Suggestions/requests welcome.
** Students bring sack lunch (there is a microwave for food, a small refrigerator, bottled water, various teas)
** Students should wear studio clothing that can get wet or stained, or bring an apron. Wear comfortable shoes
** Please bring paper and pencil/pen if you like to take notes
** Because many folks are scent sensitive, please do not wear perfume/scents to class --- thank you
** Parking: limited onsite parking, close street parking available
**** Students bring the item in italics, I will provide the other items … but if you have particular items/colors that you want to use, please bring them. ****
Gossamer Felting: Materials fee: $22 (+ any additional materials)
I provide: some sheer base fabric, variety of dyed merino wool, and misc. fibers, yarns and fabrics, felting apparatus (pipe, solar pool cover, voile & ties, bucket, plastic) soap (I use Ivory liquid --- if that is a problem for you, bring your own low phosphate soap), water, misc. studio supplies. This class does not include dyeing; that is another, more extended class. Felting is very physical, and can be hard on your back, wrists, and arms --- please be honest with yourself and sensible about what you feel you can do without injuring or exhausting yourself.
You bring: muscle, muscle, and more muscle! Wear comfortable shoes (you will be standing most of the time), clothes that can get wet and/or a studio apron, rubber gloves if extended soap/water/hot water contact is problematic. *** Felting is very physical, and can be hard on your back, wrists, and arms--- please be honest with yourself and sensible about what you feel you can do without injuring or exhausting yourself.
Fiber Mosaic 3D: Materials fee: $20 (+ any additional materials)
I provide: magazines, newspapers, art papers, gel, brushes, containers, misc. studio supplies, miscellaneous fabrics and bits and pieces for you to use if you wish, base form (I will provide you with a Styrofoam wig head or other suitable armature).
You bring: yourself! You should wear studio clothes/or a work apron that can get grubby.... gel medium will not come out of clothing. If you like to work standing up, wear comfy shoes. If you have an extra E-xacto knife/pen knife that might be useful. If not, don’t buy one, there are some available at the studio.
Thread Web: Materials fee: $15 (+ any additional materials)
I provide: miscellaneous fibers, yarns, threads and embellishment bits and pieces, water-soluble laundry bags, misc. studio supplies.
You bring: sewing machine capable of straight & zigzag stitching (if your machine cannot drop its feed dogs, please bring the feed dog plastic cover or whatever you use in order to do free-motion sewing). You will need: universal foot (Teflon universal foot strongly recommended; feed dogs will be up), darning foot (optional), sewing thread/bobbins for the sewing part of the Thread Web, scissors., and lots and lots and lots more pins. If you have an extension cord for your machine, please bring it; if you use a plexi extension table, you are welcome to bring that.
Funky Magnets: Materials fee: $15 (+ any additional materials)
I provide: magnet material, paints, embellishments, gel medium, templates, misc. studio supplies.
You bring: yourself... wearing studio clothing of course. If you have an E-xacto knife and/or junk scissors laying around (not good fabric scissors), please bring them --- don’t go buy anything, there are some in the studio; we will share. Bring a cardboard soda flat or some sort of box for transporting your magnets safely home --- the paint may still be wet.
Dyeing with Ties: Materials fee: $15 (+ any additional materials)
I provide: silk ties, vinegar, pots, hot plates, utensils, silk fabric, muslin fabric & ties, misc. studio supplies
You bring: yourself! Please be aware that some fumes from the dyes and vinegar are given off during this process; if you are sensitive to scents/fumes, this class is not for you!!!!!!!!!
Cards, Cards, Cards: Materials fee: $15 (+ any additional materials)
I provide: a variety of cards for you to embellish, misc. fibers, threads and bits and pieces, gel medium, glues, paints, foils, misc. studio supplies.
You bring: yourself wearing studio clothing.
Studio Play Day: Materials fee: none; included within studio play day fee ($35/per person/per day) --- unless you go !crazy! with materials, then additional fees will apply. Not a class, just creative folks hanging out and working together.
I provide: a selection of materials for student use, depending on what everyone is working on.
You bring: problem projects, unfinished projects, things that have you puzzled and... and... and. Bring whatever special tools you need for your project... there are many things here for you to use, but if the required tool is something unique/special/weird, bring it... i.e. specific colors of thread that you have already used etc. special whatsit for your whatsit....bring it.
