ABOUT
...The Art...
I have been working as an artist in one medium or the other for over 30 years, and for the past 12+ years, I have been focusing primarily on fiber... usually in a mixed media format. I interpret the term ‘fiber’ very loosely, and find that looseness removes traditional perceived limitations on the medium. Lest that sound a bit esoteric, what it really means is that little is safe in my studio, and will be used just about anywhere: the only limitations are that it ‘works’.
...The Artist...
Originally from California, I have lived a number of places both inside the United States and abroad. Something of all those places, and of all those splendid cultures, people, creatures and geography inhabit my art. I am truly grateful for the experience of ‘living in the world’. I have been, at various times, student, instructor, employee, employer, mentor, mentee, writer, fact-finder, shopkeeper, decorator, and always, artist. Just as all my previous living situations have impacted my art, so too, have all my daily realities influenced my creativity. So, put all that, plus my belief system, add a few wild cards into a bag, give it a shake, and when you empty it out, you get me: the person, the artist. ...The Studio...
New studio! I have moved ITSA Studio to a larger, more publicly accessible location. Not only does it provide a larger work area (but of course, no space is ever large enough), but it also enables me to exhibit my work, gives me the space to teach (ITSA Studio Classes), and the room to host art events.
Because the studio is a working studio, I do not have general open-to-the-public hours per se ...however, if you are in the area and would like to make an appointment to view the art, purchase surface design supplies, art supplies, embellishments etc. that I carry on my other web site www.itsastudio.com , (what you see on the site is the tip of the proverbial iceberg), please give me a call (916.233.9563) and we will see about arranging a time for a visit and a little art-talk, good music, and maybe even a cup of tea.
If you are in Sacramento, my studio is open for the 2nd Saturday Art Walk, April through September, from 4 PM - 7 PM, (hours subject to change; check the local online and print papers in their respective calendar or 2nd Saturday Art Walk sections, or call the studio).
If you want to stop by, and are allergic to, or otherwise ill at ease around dogs, please let me know, as Esme, the Portuguese Water Dog who allows me to share her life, space, and love, is usually at the studio with me. As Esme is very uncomfortable around children, and because my studio is not childproof, I ask that no children come along if you do visit.
